Zack doesn't really have a master plan or secret motivations--he's just violent for violence's sake. Around his shack he has a convenient field of trees to take out his aggression on, but sometimes he makes his way downtown.
Though he's rather tricky to confront directly.
He eventually does get captured, though, and Matthew manages to stuff him in a straitjacket.
