They should seem familiar.

A lot of my alien designs helped inspire the Rixile races (perhaps the most obvious one is that the earthen have magamir armor painted brown), so making them the local fauna only seemed like a natural extension.

Though it's kind of a wonder why I didn't use the more creative "umbrose" over "darkling," but "darkling" was one of the few race names I still liked from CB's first incarnation (I was 14). Perhaps umbrosen is what they call themselves in their own language.

(And for completion's sake, the other race names carried over from CB 1.0 were forcol, icend [spelled differently but pronounced the same], and aquatone.)
