Stella doesn't seem keen on elaborating more about her past, but she does mention that the carnies are keeping her cane from her, which she can use for an even more powerful, more fantasy-like magic that involves making people see things.
She says that maybe if Corey could distract them long enough, she could snatch the cane from the shelf it's kept on, and they can escape.
