Retrospective, Day 7

To top off this week, it's Don the Fly!If you came from dA, DtF is probably a lot older than you think. It started in August 2005 and is my second-oldest story that's still going around (the first being RR, of course). The thing is with DtF is that it just got revamped constantly...twice, I believe, and each revamp changed the story and almost all the characters except for Don, Alec, and Matt. Its current style came about when I had a Nicktoon binge April '08, and it's influenced my styles ever since. DtF was definitely the most "stylistic" of mine--just look at Don's "sidenose"--but its desire to make every character look unique flows through II and RR.The most recent incarnation of DtF was also "reformist" to me in a way. It was a pretty basic story with amusing but weird characters that didn't take itself too seriously, but wasn't devoid of a serious element. I'm bad at all comedy stories, but I'm also bad at super serious stories; for me it has to be a balance, and DtF is the poster child of that for me.Its style also gave way to lots of cameos from other characters of mine!It has its weak spots, of course. Whereas it perfectly exemplifies what kind of story I like to make, its characters are pretty flat in areas. It gave me some great new ones (Stella in particular), but a lot could stand to be developed on a level that II did with its villains. In fact I fear that if I revamp it (again), the cast will be overhauled; probably half of them would get switched out. Not naming names yet, but it's been in my mind.Especially if it's going to get connected to II as a prequel, some things are gonna get switched around. Currently all that's "solid" is Don, Alec, Madison, Matt, and Odiosus.
So what's going to happen? I'm not sure. It's still going to live on somehow, after all, I consider Don a mascot of sorts. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what pops up!
